Former WCW Champion in negotiations with WWE

I know it seems hard to believe, but according to Bill Goldberg via Twitter, the former WCW and WWE champion is in negotiations with World Wrestling Entertainment.

“YES.. I am in negotiations with the WWE. Looks like ‘ole Hogan and TNA missed the boat. Shame for the fans they didn’t even try.”

Jim Ross to receive award for "lifetime contribution" to wrestling

The Cauliflower Alley Club has a great article on the career of Jim Ross at http://tinyurl.com/ychbgrn. The club is a non-profit fraternal organization who’s membership includes retired and active pro wrestlers and boxers in North America. They host an annual reunion dinner which has traditionally been attended by celebrities and other professional athletes. This year, Ross will receive an award for his lifetime contributions to the wrestling business. Regarding his WWE future, he was quoted as saying, “I think I could be part of a plan to positively effect the broadcasting aspect of wrestling; and to have some part in creating the next wave of main eventers; developing new stars. Thatâ€™s what Iâ€™d be interested in doing.”

Ross noted on his Twitter that he was attending Wrestlemania as a fan and wasn’t aware as yet that he would be calling any action.

Maria has a new job

Former WWE diva Maria Kanellis, released by WWE a few weeks ago, has a new gig. Kanellis will debut as an MMA announcer for HDNET, reports wrestlingobserver.com. On 3/26, Kanellis will join Michael Schiavello and Jason “Mayhem” Miller in Reno, NV for the King of the Cage show.

HBK/Sheamus Encounter, Post-Mania HBK Update

I spoke to a source within WWE this morning who relayed to me a very interesting story concerning a recent backstage encounter between Shawn Michaels and former WWE Champion Sheamus. According to the source, Michaels approached Sheamus and said, “in case you haven’t heard, I’m not going to be around much after WrestleMania, and it’s time for the guys like you to step up and main event with all the current top guys, and then bring up the next tier and make them top guys. Your time is NOW!”

Words to that effect.

We have been reporting for several weeks now that Shawn Michaels plans to take time off after WrestleMania, but this time around it might be different since there is no time table for his return. This doesn’t mean that he will lose to The Undertaker at the PPV, but that his time off could be significantly longer this time around that it was last year after WrestleMania 25. I was even told that HBK could be held off until next year’s ‘Mania when he can do the big sendoff much like WWE did for Ric Flair.

I was also told that Sheamus is being told by guys like HBK to step up in every conceivable way, and that he needs to to be a leader to the young guys, but at the same time he needs to be very careful not to step on Randy Orton’s toes. That’s as big of a part of this story as anything, because a lot of the locker room really likes Randy because he has stood up when the time’s right, and also because they all feel he’s truly the best in the ring right now, even though his temper tantrums in and out of the ring have some people pointing fingers.

WWE Hall Of Famer Reportedly Arrested – Details

While this has not been confirmed, we’ve heard that the Iron Sheik (real name Hossein Khosrow Ali Vaziri) was arrested last week after boarding a flight with AirTran.

Apparently, the WWE Hall of Famer got belligerent on his flight and personnel discovered alcohol in his bag. Sheik was in Las Vegas “for a bong connection,” which is where the incident supposedly took place.

More On The Iron Sheik’s Arrest

– As noted earlier today, there is an unconfirmed report that The Iron Sheik was arrested last week after behaving belligerent on a flight and personnel discovering alcohol among his belongings. The story appears legit as Jim Ross made note of a flight incident involving the WWE Hall of Famer on both his official website and Twitter account last week. J.R. wrote in a blog post last Friday: “Small world….an old friend of mine was on a flight from Vegas to Atlanta this week and was seated on the same row, row 10, with a reportedly rowdy Iron Sheik. My friend, who is not in the wrestling biz, sent me a few text messages describing the scene which apparently was a little wild. It’s hard to believe that when I first met the Iron Sheik that he was quiet, weighed about 195 pounds or so, had hair, and was then a regular traveling partier with Danny Hodge.” He then wrote on Twitter, “Friend called from Vegas airport boarding flt 2 Atl. It was loud & noisy. Reason: Iron Sheik was boarding! Maybe 2 many jabroni’s” and “My friend called me and Sheik got met by PO-leese @ ATL airport. Ouch, Daddy.”
