New NWA World Heavyweight Champion crowned

Adam Pearce became the new NWA World Heavyweight Champion on Sunday afternoon in Charlotte, NC at the NWA New Beginnings event at the University Hilton Hotel reports The Wrestling Observer. Pearce beat former champion Blue Demon Jr. and National champion Phil Shatter in a three way elimination match.

Andy Douglas posted the following at Mid-Southern Wrestling message board today:

My last match.
Tonight was it…my last match. It’s time for me to turn the page on a new chapter in my life. I have so many great memories to take with me. Tonight was very hard but I couldn’t have ask for a better way to go out than to wrestle Chase. There are so many people I’d like to thank so I’ll just list them at the end. I am so proud and honored to get to have my last match at the Nashville Fairgrounds. I consider that place home. It’s where Chase and I got our start and our break with TNA, and that place has so much history. I would like to thank Chase for being the best tag partner anyone could ask for. He has been there for me since day one. Up and down the roads, through my battles with demons, and my best man at my wedding. I love you Chase….thank you for everything. I love this business, but it’s time to move on. Time to prepare for a financially stable future. I’m so lucky to have been able to live out my dreams for 11 years. Thank you to each and every fan that came out week after week and spent their hard earned money to watch us do what we do. Without you fans…nothing we do would mean anything. Thank you to the following people who had such a great impact on my career.

1.) Download TWC4_Career.zip.
2.) Extract the TWC4_Career.zip to any directory.
You don’t need to overwrite ANY files – everything is bundled and ready to go in a TWC4_Career folder.
3.) Run TWC4.exe and enjoy.

To install TWC4 Management Edition:
1.) You’ll need to install TWC4 Career Edition first. (See above for details.)
2.) Make a copy of the TWC4_Career folder.

Lacey Von Erich to get more training

Lacey Von Erich stated on her Facebook page yesterday that effective Saturday (today), she begins formal wrestling training three times per week. She wrote: “YAY! My girls did so good monday, winning the gold for the BP’s. I’m happy to be a part of the glory (not that I did much) lol I start training this sat. 3 times a week! Can’t wait to get in the ring more! Love y’all!” TNA recently established a working relationship with the Orange County based Mach One Wrestling school/promotion to give company performers an official training location and as feeder of sorts for prospective talent.

Wrestling Legend Passes Away

John S. Hill 68, of Franklin, Indiana, world wide professional championship wrestler of 19 championship titles passed away Thursday, March 11, 2010.

During his 25 years in the wrestling ring, Hill worked as Guy Hill, Guy Mitchell, The Assassin, The Stomper, The Destroyer, The Strangler, Mr. X, and Gentleman Jerry Valiant, among more than a dozen stage names.

Survivors include wife, Carolyn F. Hill; son, Jonathan S. Hill; brothers, Clarence Hill, James Hill, and George Hill; sisters, Margaret Butler, and Betty Elliott.

Visitation will be Sunday, March 14 from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. in Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 in Franklin. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.swartzmortuary.com. Information: 317-738-0202.

Former WWE diva Maria Kanellis, released by WWE a few weeks ago, has a new gig. Kanellis will debut as an MMA announcer for HDNET, reports wrestlingobserver.com. On 3/26, Kanellis will join Michael Schiavello and Jason “Mayhem” Miller in Reno, NV for the King of the Cage show.

Bobby Heenan’s First Protege and Valiant "Brother", John Hill, Dies At Age 68

John Hill, better known as Guy “The Stomper” Mitchell passed away yesterday at the age of 68.

Many aren’t aware but Hill was the first ever wrestler that Bobby Heenan managed in the sport.

In the WWA, Guy Mitchell wrestled as “Jerry Heenan” the brother tag team partner of a rookie named Bobby Heenan.

In 1978, Guy Mitchell debuted on the WWWF as “Jerry Valiant”, replacing Jimmy in the Valiant Brothers – teaming with Johnny.

In May 2005, John Hill attended a “Valiant Brother Reunion” along with his “brothers” Jimmy & Johnny for the first time in 25 years!

Pro Wrestler & Ring Legend Sandy Scott Passes Away

Sandy Scott, half of one of the longest-running tag teams in wrestling, passed away on Thursday, March 11, 2010 in Roanoke, Virginia, at the age of 75. He was stricken with pancreatic cancer in 2009, and though it was done immediately, radical surgery could not contain the deadly disease.

Born Angus Mackay Scott in Hamilton, Ontario on May 27, 1934, he followed his older brother George into pro wrestling in late 1953. After working small-time events in his native Ontario for his first few months, he joined George in Stu Hartâ€™s Stampede Wrestling territory in June 1954. The family tag team â€“ a real one, in this case, during a time when most â€œbrotherâ€� tandems each had their own set of parents â€“ was launched.

Adopting the catchier first name Sandy, he and George clicked immediately with their smooth, speedy style. They headquartered in Calgary for the next half-dozen years, and became a wildly popular pairing there and in the mid-Atlantic area, Oregon, the upper mid-west, New York and Ohio, British Columbia and Ontario. The also did a swing through Japan in 1962, and two tours of Australia in 1966 and 1968. The brothersâ€™ aerial attack, featuring dropkicks and flying head scissors in a time when much of wrestling was still ground-based, soon earned them the nickname â€œThe Flying Scottsâ€�.

George and Sandy capitalized on their growing reputation, opening a popular Calgary restaurant, The Scott Brothers Paddock, venturing to other areas of Canada and the U.S., and facing many of the top teams of the day. In Calgary alone, they faced the Miller, Tolos, Neilson, Mills, Kalmikoff, Smith, Vachon and Gallagher clans, Fritz von Erich and Karl von Schober, Iron Mike DiBiase and Danny Plechas. Many more teams lined up against them elsewhere, particularly in the Carolinas.

After a long and successful run together â€” The Flying Scotts shared tag team honors on 16 occasions in Canada, the U.S. and Australia â€” Sandy and George parted company in 1970. Sandy worked widely as a solo and with other tag partners, notably Jerry Brisco, almost exclusively in the Mid-Atlantic area. Through it all, he never forsook his scientific style going into a match, but he could and did roughen up his approach when his opponentâ€™s behavior demanded it.

With the 20-year mark of his career approaching, Sandy looked to the future and a change in his role in the wrestling industry. He had a strong relationship with the Crockett family, and began taking an active part in many facets of promotion, booking towns and venues, handling public appearances and advertising, and tending to the myriad of details that the promotionâ€™s success depended upon. He had an on-air persona as well, as a special representative of the NWA, and was instrumental in many of JCPâ€™s major angles.

Following his last matches in 1976, Sandy continued his promotional role full-time. When World Championship Wrestling bought out JCP, he transitioned to the larger company, adding the role of on-air host of WCW World Wide to his duties. In 1991, he moved to Jim Cornetteâ€™s fledgling Smoky Mountain Wrestling out of Knoxville, Tennessee, and continued with the company until its demise in 1995.

Throughout his 20-plus years of active wrestling, and another 20-plus years of work in small and large promotions, Sandy Scott had done it all, and done it very well. He was inducted into the NWA Wrestling Legends Hall of Heroes in 2008, a fitting tribute indeed.

Sandy is survived by his wife Sandra, sons Drew and Sandy, daughter Tracey and grandson Coleton.

The Cauliflower Alley Club extends its deepest condolences to Sandra Scott and family, and to Sandyâ€™s many friends.
